As a second-generation Korean-American, I began this project with the simple goal of learning more about my Korean heritage through my parents’ life stories.  Over the course of this year, the project has also become a journey through Korean history and a study in human character.  Through these five foundational narrators, I have begun to learn not only about how Koreans lived through this unique period of history, but also about the incredible strength, drive and spirit of these individuals.  They have led extraordinary lives, both in Korea and the United States.  This exhibit seeks to honor their memories by sharing their stories with the public.

This site and the oral history interviews featured in it are part of my thesis work as a student in the Oral History Master of Arts Program at Columbia University.  For more information about the program, go to http://oralhistory.columbia.edu/.
